I love Montessori! Waldorf is awesome too. My boys are now 3 & 4th graders in Montessori and we still love their school. Denver has great Montessori options, and then there the co-op's like the Denver Co-op & Steele Co-op. DPS also has Montessori that starts at 3yrs old. My kiddos are at Denison Montessori.

Another good option is the Reggio Emila Approach. I have been teaching at a Reggio inspired school for the past 5 years and I love it! It has a child-centered approach to learning as well as a child's relationships to the environment around them and the people around them. Here is a link to the Wikipedia page about it for you.

I agree...Our society is in such a hurry to get kids prepped for college that they don't let them learn about the world around them creatively.

Good luck with the preschool search!

I second Paula's recommendation for a Waldorf playschool. My two grandchildren (one is now almost 10 years old and the other 6) each went three full days a week to their local Waldorf playschool. They had wonderful adventures walking in the forest (a small patch of trees and bushes), hearing and seeing birds and their nests that their teachers pointed out, planting seeds in the spring and taking care of their gardens and eating things from the garden, playing outside even in
rain and snow in proper clothing for the season and going back inside for snack time--which was porridge prepared by the teacher, and slices of apple. They had stories and games and art work too, and free play time, with a nap/rest period after lunch. Nature and natural things were the focus, but presented in a natural way, not at all shrill and preaching. Goodness, I sound like a commercial! But it was a wonderful experience for the whole family.

In our area there aren't any Waldorf or Monessori options convienently located for our family. One daycare chain in Colorado that has a really good mix of educational opportunity along with creative play and physical challenges is Bright Horizons. We love our center. Other chains that I've seen in action and can say positive things about are Goddard and Primrose.
