Focusing on "The New"

Becky and Sylvie (in her hat!)

My friend Becky got me out of the house on Friday, to go hear Joe Biden speak. I’m a democrat myself, (and so’s Becky) but even if you’re not, you have to admit that it’s pretty special for a big political figure to come to our little town!

Me

You can see from the picture, I was still in mourning, just not really smiley like usual. I was planning to wear all black (even painted my toenails black) but it was just too hot! So, I’m in all black with a blue shirt.

I had taken Mazie over to my parents’ house yesterday morning because I thought I’d try to get some work done, but the more I thought about what a once in a lifetime opportunity it is to be so involved in such an important election year…I couldn’t pass up the invitation. We’ve been volunteering as “Mamas for Obama” so we got our names on the list for tickets and got right in.

It’s good to have some reason to leave the house, and something to get excited about.

ooh, Mine?

When we got home, there was such a sweet package from my friend Karida! She sent me three skeins of her sock yarn! She said she’d been playing around in the dye pot, and that these made her think of me because they’re so bright!

Let me tell you, it was JUST what the doctor ordered. She’s also writing a book with her friend Libby, which I think should be coming out in April.

Today, we went to swimming lessons, then to the library so that Nathan could vote (where we ran into Cindy and her BF Mano.) Afterward, we went to see Governor Richardson speak. We sat on the blanket for a while in the shade and just relaxed. It’s been a pretty full weekend already, and we have a BBQ tomorrow. I’m glad we’ve got a lot to do, so that I can keep myself occupied. It’s so hard to lose a pet!!

ugh, Kitty!

Medea

Medea isn’t feeling well!

She stopped wanting to eat a few days ago, so I took her to the vet. He did a bunch of tests and thinks it a bacterial infection in her liver. SO, she’s on antibiotics and I’m feeding her by hand (syringe) every hour. I’m trying to keep her nourished until the meds kick in. She’s had 3 cycles, and she seems to be doing better than yesterday. (I know it takes antibiotics a few days to really kick in, but she really does seem to be doing more.)

You might remember the last time she went to the vet, and they told me that she had a heart problem and had to have human heart medicine and an EKG every week, and wouldn’t even LOOK at her teeth or any other part of her.

WELL. This new vet doesn’t hear ANYTHING wrong with her heart. So that whole thing was a big runaround, just like we thought! Also, the bump they said was a “tumor” was just a cyst, which this new vet drained in like a second.

ARG!! FIRST VETS WE SAW!! ARG!!

SO, anyway, my stress-level is really high at the moment. Please wish good things for her!
